Mr. Peterson's depth of legal experience spans a wide range of civil litigation and dispute resolution. His trial and appellate practice concentrates on claims of professional liability. In representing design professionals and lawyers he assists in claim avoidance and provides law suit defense. He is highly experienced in civil litigation in both the trial and appellate courts. |
| In trial courts: |
He is retained by self-insured and insured A&E design professionals and by lawyer professional liability insurers. He represents enterprises from across the United States and from Europe. He has over 100 jury verdicts and a variety of trial experience, including law suits on design and construction of public, commercial, high rise, and industrial structures. In his law practice, he also manages construction claims and counsels in the avoidance of construction claims for self-insureds and excess insurers. |
| In appellate courts: |
In addition to trying many cases to juries in the state and federal trial courts, he is among a few jury trial lawyers to have appeared before the United States Supreme Court and Illinois Supreme Court. He argued before the Illinois Supreme Court to apply a shorter statute of limitations in building construction in Hernon v. Corrigan, 149 Ill.2d 190 and before the United States Supreme Court to apply offers of judgment to bar fee awards in Marek v. Chesny, 473 U.S. 1. |
| Activities: |
Mr. Peterson is an active member of the bar and a life-long resident of the Chicago area. He serves on the Illinois Supreme Court Rules Committee and the Court's Civil Rules Subcommittee. Mr. Peterson also serves on the ISBA Standing Committee on Professional Conduct; speaks on construction defect claims and other civil litigation topics; and serves on the ABA Law Practice Management Section Diversity Committee. He is a member of the Board of the Juvenile Welfare Association of Chicago which serves needs of adolescent children in the inner-city. |
